Using AI in Obsidian
I have been using Perplexity for a while now. It became my AI tool of choice because it provides good links to sources.
However, it was difficult to combine it with working on my notes in Obsidian. I had to bring my notes to the AI, and then bring the answers back to my notes.
But no more!
One thing I like about Obsidian is that it really can reduce the friction of getting information from a source into my personal notes. I experimented with a few options, and have settled on the YOLO plugin for Obsidian (for now, at least).
At first, it did not seem to work. It took me a while to discover how I could add newer models (click the little ">" next to the name of the provider).
I can now chat with Perplexity from within Obsidian. It is easy to add notes as extra context. And I can get answers or feedback directly in my notes with simple prompts.
It goes even further: I can let it use part of my vault as "Knowledge", using the technical term "retrieval-augmented generation". Now, my literature notes and bookmarks are available as sources for answers too.
